Bettr Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 25, 2026
Last updated: April 25, 2026
Bettr ("Bettr," "we," "us," or "our") is an independent recovery support tool
for people who want to quit or cut back on sports betting. This Privacy Policy
describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
This policy applies to the Bettr mobile app on iOS and Android, the Bettr web
experience at bettr.app, and any related services we operate (collectively,
the "Service"). It does not apply to third-party services that you may reach
through the app, such as gambling-recovery hotlines or external resources.
1. Who we are
Bettr is operated by Diogo Lima and Massimo LoCicero, based in Ontario, Canada,. You can reach us at info@bettrtherapy.com.
Bettr is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any sportsbook,
casino, racetrack, online betting platform, or other gambling operator.
2. Information we collect
We collect the smallest amount of information needed to make Bettr work.
2.1 Information you provide
- Account. The app creates an anonymous account automatically on first launch. We do not collect your email, name, or any sign-in credentials. If you post in the community, you may choose a display name.
- Onboarding answers. During onboarding you may share information about
your gambling history, frequency, triggers, mood, and
goals. You decide what to enter.
- Recovery activity. Urge logs, mood check-ins, pledges,
reasons for quitting, accountability-partner contacts (name and phone
number), reality-check entries, and posts/comments in the community.
- Communications. If you contact support, we keep the messages you send.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Which screen was opened and when. Each row carries no
user id, only the screen name and two coarse buckets (a spending band and how long
you have been going), so usage is read as totals and never traced back to a person.
We do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
- Push token. If you enable notifications, we store the device push token
so we can deliver streak milestones and reminders.
2.3 Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect or access your financial accounts, bank balances,
betting account credentials, or transaction history.
- We do not collect precise GPS location.
- We do not access your photos, contacts, microphone, or health data
unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature (currently:
camera, only for the optional Panic Button photo).
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not share data with advertisers.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service (sign-in, sync your streak across devices,
show your data back to you).
- Personalize your recovery program based on your onboarding answers.
- Send you streak milestones, daily pledge reminders, and accountability
notifications you opt into.
- Power the AI coach feature ("Kai"), which generates responses based on your
message and a limited summary of your recovery context.
- Improve the app — see which screens get used, fix bugs, prioritize features.
- Communicate with you about service updates, security, and support.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not use your data to train third-party advertising models or share
it with sportsbooks or any gambling-related business.
4. How we share your information
We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use trusted vendors to run Bettr. They process
data on our behalf under written confidentiality and security obligations:
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage.
- RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions.
- Anthropic — generating AI coach responses (the message you
send and a brief recovery context are transmitted; chat history is not
used to train their public models per our enterprise terms).
- Expo / EAS — push-notification delivery.
- Accountability partners you choose. If you add an accountability
partner by phone number, your own Messages app opens with the text ready and you
send it yourself. The message leaves your phone, not our servers, and we never
transmit anything to that number. If your partner also uses Bettr, the message is
sent in the app instead. We store the name and number you enter so the feature
works, and nothing else about them.
- Legal & safety. We may disclose information if required by law,
subpoena, or to protect the safety of you or others.
- Business transfers. If Bettr is acquired or merges with another
company, your data may transfer as part of that transaction. We will
notify you and honor the protections in this policy.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access and export. Email info@bettrtherapy.com to request a copy of your
data.
- Correction. Edit your profile in Settings, or email us.
- Deletion. Tap Settings → Delete account to permanently erase your
account and all associated data. You can also email us. Deletion is
irreversible.
- Notifications. Toggle push notifications in Settings or in your device
settings.
- Marketing. We don't send marketing emails. If we ever do, every
message will include an unsubscribe link.
- Region-specific rights. If you are in the EEA, UK, California, or
another jurisdiction with applicable privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA,
etc.), you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict
processing, object, and port your data. To exercise these rights, email
info@bettrtherapy.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local
supervisory authority.
6. Data retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active. When
you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your data within 30 days,
except where we are required to retain limited records (e.g. tax/payment
records held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat per their own policies).
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit (TLS), encryption
at rest, access controls, and least-privilege service roles — to protect
your data. No system is 100% secure; you are responsible for keeping your
device and credentials safe.
8. Children
Bettr is intended for users 17 years of age or older. We do not
knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe
a child has provided us information, email info@bettrtherapy.com and we will
delete it.
9. International transfers
Bettr is operated from Canada. Our service providers, including our database host, are located in the United States, so your information is transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Data-protection laws in those countries may differ from your own.
10. Health, medical, and financial disclaimer
Bettr is not a medical device, not a substitute for professional
treatment, and not financial advice. The content in the app is for
educational and self-help purposes only. If you are in crisis, call
1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), text 800GAM to 800GAM, or call
988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If changes are material, we will notify you in
the app or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use
of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
